Hi Guys! been awhile since i've posted here... anyways, been having a problem. So here it goes.
My Alienware 17 laptop (~2 years old) has been somewhat slow recently, and having nothing of importance on the machine, i decided to do a fresh install of windows and completely wiped both the ssd and hdd in the machine. I go through the installation process and get everything working, except for on thing; no matter what i do, and I've re-done the install multiple times, among other things, i can NEVER get the internet through the Ethernet port to work. Wi-fi works great; on it now. The Ethernet driver says it's installed, and when i plug in the Ethernet cord (yes i turn off wifi) it says it has a 1GbPs download speed (i am at university so very fast ethernet when working) and when i try to use the internet, it works very intermittently. I can oftentimes load simple webpages like google searches, or even more complicated pages like amazon, woot.com, facebook.com, etc. but oftentimes the page only partially loads, loads very slow (slow then wifi) and the connection cannot sustain through streaming video, downloads, etc. First thing i did was try connecting to a friends laptop, and his worked great with 800+upload/download speed, with every page loading instantly and streaming and everything working great. So clearly it's not the cord or Internet. Currently i am sitting with the machine in windows 8.0 (thats the recovery media because 8.1 wasn't out yet) and haven't updated it all the windows update yet, which i have done twice already to see if with the latest updates it would work, but it still didn't. So i'm trying to keep the machine as bare bones as possible in case i need to fresh install again until i get the ethernet working. Thanks! Any suggestions? really at a loss here and would like my ethernet back as it's invaluable speed for pretty much everything i do. Thanks!
