What’s going on with my internets?

A new windows 8 Dell machine with intermittent internet, simply sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Currently which I find baffling I’m streaming the Golf flawlessly on the BBC website and have been all morning although I can’t connect to any webpages (Although as we speak webpages are loading again), it’s on and off like this most of the day.

Webpages stop loading at completely random parts of the day, in fact at these times Thunderbird etc will not connect to mail servers also.

I’ve tried disabling various things in task manager, although have not yet completely disabled McAfee which I presume is on a year’s trial via Dell. Connection wise it’s fibre optic although I’m quite a while from the router, it never drops below 3 bars, and when it works it works well.

Can you point me in the right direction? It’s strange the fact that it seems to randomly drop out, yet it will still stream online content that’s been going for a few hours.

I’m fairly new to windows 8, I have my concerns that it’s windows 8 or McAfee related rather than hardware, of course I might well be wrong

(Off again as we speak, not loading pages, Golf still streaming, restarted and took 3 attempts to post this lol)
