TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 - ("Network Adapter is NOT DETECTED")

I bought this Network Adapter recently, and have followed the instruction manual to the letter trying to install it, but no matter what, it won't let me install the drivers off the CD, and it gives me this error message:

"Wireless network adapter is not detected. Please insert the right TP-LINK wireless network adapter and click 'Yes' to continue the installation, or click 'No' to quit the installation process."

Even though it's in the correct (and only) PCI-E slot, and secured in place with a screw, my PC will not acknowledge its existence. I went online (on a separate PC) and downloaded driver after driver after driver trying to get my PC to recognize that there was, in fact, a new part. But nothing would work and I kept getting that same error message. So I checked the Device Manager, and sure enough, the un-recognized device was there, but this is what its Status said:

"This device cannot start. (Code 10)

{Operation Failed}
The requested operation was unsuccessful."

So I decided to troubleshoot the device, and this is was the result (word-for-word):

"Problems found
The TP-LINK Wireless PCI Express Adapter adapter is experiencing Not fixed driver- or hardware-related problems"

This is a new PC build with Windows 8.1, and all I want is Internet access. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
