I've had this problem off and on for the past year and decided to ask for guidance. I did a search through the forum, which yielded 4000+ posts. I'll admit, I did not read them all, but the ones I did read were all for wireless adapters. Here we go:
System:
Broadcom BCM57781 - NetLink Gigabit Ethernet adapters on motherboard. I have two ethernet ports on my system, but I am only using one. Teaming is not enabled (obviously). Driver version is 14.8.0.5. Interestingly, when I downloaded the latest driver from the ASRock website, it said it was 14.8.4.1, but when I install it, the Device Manager shows 14.8.0.5
Connected to a Linksys Etherfast 10/100 5-port workgroup switch (EZXS55W ver 2.0).
The switch is connected to my DSL modem (I can provide if needed, but I don't think it is the issue as you will read below).
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1.
Problem:
The network intermittently gets disconnected. May be fine for days, and then there will be 5 events in an hour. Does not seem to be tied to activity, as sometimes it occurs after I have left the system for awhile, and sometimes it happens while streaming.
An ipconfig /renew generates this message:
No operation can be performed on Local Area Connection 2 while it has its media disconnected.
An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out.
This is always fixed by unplugging and then re-plugging the cable to the switch.
Other computers connected to the switch continue to work fine.
I have tried both ports on my PC with the same issue.
I have tried different ports on my switch with the same issue.
Thanks,
Pauley
