I really hope someone can help me with this problem.
I recently changed my internet provider to Acanac from Rogers, and ever since doing that I have had so many problems. I have a D-Link router (DIR-605L), and several devices in our apartment. Some of them work, some don't. Our cell phones all seem to work and connect fine with no issues. The Wii is wired to the router and works fine. The Mac computer connects and works 98% of the time, with an occasional drop that is normally fixed by restarting the browser. The Sony Vaio (using Vista) works about 80% of the time, but will randomly go to "local only" for extended periods of time and then start working again. My Compaq Presario CQ60 which also has Vista is the same. (Note: they don't always go to local at the same time. Sometimes one will be working fine while the other is at local only). My roommate also has a Compaq Presario CQ60 with Vista, but for some reason hers is always "local only". We also have an Xbox which worked at first, but has now stopped working.
I am not a techy at all, but my dad knows a bit and he is stumped. We tried a few different things (I couldn't really tell you what since my dad walked me through the steps). I tried calling the internet company and they said it was an issue with the router, and to call Dlink. I called Dlink and was on the phone with the guy for a long time (he was awful) and all we did was reset the router (which is something I had already done earlier today in an effort to solve the problem). He tells me this WILL solve the problem for the devices that are in and out, and so far it has, but it's only been about 20 minutes. He also says that for the computer that never works we need to call the computer people and they have to walk us through changing some of the settings, however since the computer is passed the warranty period they want to charge us $100 to help. Is there ANYONE out there who can help me out so we don't need to pay for something which might not even work? Please remember that I don't know much other than the basics about computers and will need someone to really spell it out for me step-by-step. Thanks in advance! (NOTE: since calling the D-link people we haven't tried the Xbox yet and don't know if it is working or not.)
