Roku questions

My mother is in a nursing home, and she gets basic cable. I asked there if it were possible for her to get additional channels, but all I was told was that their cable package doesn't allow for that, but that "a few people use Roku". But when I ask about the quality of the wifi, etc. no one I asked really knew.

So I have a couple of questions:
1. Would a Roku be viable on shared wifi?
2. How easy is it for a non-tech savvy/easily confused senior to use? My mom had very few problems with her old TiVo box, but she didn't do much beyond finding and recording specific shows or movies, and getting wishlists and subscriptions. Anything more complex, and she'd need help (such as resolving conflicts, figuring out why something wasn't recorded, downloading On Demand shows).
3. If not, does anyone have any easier/better alternatives?

She doesn't have alzheimers, so that's good, but she's also easily intimidated by unfamiliar tech. For example, if she wanted to watch a DVD, I'd have to set it up for her.
