I have these 2 laptops using WiFi and they have been working fine since out of the box for years. A month a go (ish) this weird problem started occurring and it hasn't gone away. The problem is if both laptops are on, eventually one of the two laptops (at random) will be kicked off of the internet and the only way to get it to come back is if you reset the MODEM. Resetting the router doesn't do anything.
It is a random laptop, both ips are different, ect, ect, the settings are fine, no viruses or anything. It's just so strange that the only way to fix it is to reset the modem. The modem has nothing to do with the WiFi though!
It gets weirder. It's ONLY these two laptops. All my wired connections and other WiFis work fine, no problem. The signal to the router is fine. So I thought maybe the ips get mixed up since they're automatic. So I changed them to static, did it all ok and it was fine for 2 days. Well it happened again but this time resetting the modem didn't work, and it didn't work at all until I reset it after I changed the ip's back to automatic.
Extra details: One of the laptops get kicked off at random times. It's not like one botos up and the other gets kicked off. It only happens when they are both on. If only one laptop is on then it won't get booted from the WiFi. When the laptop does lose connection, and if I hard wire it to the router, then it works fine until I unplug it. My modem does not do anything but give access to the internet which the Ethernet is hooked up to the router, but again, resetting the router does nothing to the WiFi. When the laptop does lose connection all my other WiFi (including the laptop that did not get booted off) still works.
I'm going into networking but I am a beginner level, so I know the static ips and DNS servers are right.
