Last month I got Charter internet and tv, we were getting a stable 60+mbps, with 2 PCs (one windows 7, the other windows 8), 2 iphones, and an ATT microcell connected, until Charter's DNS went down. I switched to google's DNS and it was fine, I switched back to Charter when it came back on.
A week ago I noticed the speed gradually dropping everyday, from 60+ one day, to 30 the next, then 20, then 11, then 3mbps on my PC (connected by Ethernet to router, then tried connected directly to the modem, it had the same outcome.) and the other user's PC. (which is getting 18+mbps wirelessly)
I finally got through to customer service (as we have no cell service here, thus the microcell) and they sent techs out today, they checked the lines and found them to be fine, and their equipment, connected to my router, was getting 60+mbps. They told me the issue had to be something in my PC throttling the connection.
I've done multiple virus and malware scans, my PC is clean, as is the other one, my network card is working correctly, as is the other computer's. I've done ping tests that were all fine. The issue is the same, connected wirelessly, Ethernet to router, or Ethernet to modem, all the same, slow and unstable, but just on the computers, the iphones, on the other hand, both are getting 30+mbps. (which is how high they can handle)
So to summarize;
Speed paid for, and that the lines are getting: 60+mbs
1 PC windows 7, is getting 3-5mbps unstable both connected to the router, and then again directly to the modem. Completely virus/malware free, fairly new and working PC parts.
1 PC windows 8; is getting 18+mbps wirelessly, slightly unstable.
2 iphones: 30+mbps (but they can't go up to 60mbps so I assume they are getting max connection) slightly stable.
Tech's equipment: 60+mbps through the same wireless connection as everything else.
Also, I've switched back to google's DNS thinking that was it, but the outcome was the same.
Any help would be appreciated, I've never encountered this type of issue, where my PC gets a slow speed connected directly to the modem, and the same connected to the router, while other devices (aside from the other PC) is getting a full connection wirelessly.
