dell driver problems

im hoping someone can help, i was given a dell studio 1737 laptop last month, the hard drive had been reformatted, when i try to connect to my router through either wifi or ethernet i get nothing, i get conflicting messages saying everything is working fine, and there is no driver installed, i have installed the dell wireless wlan 1397 driver but still nothing, i have the drivers disc, but im stuck

help please anyone
