Re: Uk slow wireless speed

I have Toshiba laptop Satellite 3001MC with Vista 32 bit. The distance between the router & laptop is about 9m within a domestic structure. When I have been with BT the signal of wireless at back room has been poor & I have got by changing channel from 6 to 11 & vice verse – never had dramatic wireless speed drop. Since I am with Plus net, having a router TG582n Plus net, the wireless at front room with Ethernet & wireless is good but at back room keeps dropping to 3mp or less. Initially the router has been replaced but the problem has gone from bad to worse. During the past 5 days whatever I do I can’t raise the wireless speed to normal, at best for one hour after putting off router & laptop then putting them on. I have already changed channels from13 to 3 to 8 to 6 to 11 & at front room there is good speed with Ethernet & wireless. However at back room it drops dramatically without any warning & green light is flushing. I also tested without a telephone in the socket, but the same happens. I also have got new filters but for no avail.
Plus net claims as if my wireless is faulty & unless I install another computer which would behave the same as my I don’t get help. I can’t borrow another computer & if I could it would be set to the broadband they use. Instead I found in Task Manager Network Adapters that Intel(R) Wi-Fi Link 5100AGN has the latest adapter & that it works properly. In Network Sharing Centre Network Discovery & File sharing are on - but windows firewall is blocked by Zone Alarm firewall. Also windows defender blocked by Microsoft security essential- In addition that the connection to Plus net wireless 514B41 is automatic. The only suspicion regarding wireless is that windows performance report says that at the busiest network adapter is less than 15%. I don’t know what else I can check.
Plusnet also suggested to get a booster, but what is available on the net are boosters with 2.4GH frequency but not 5GH which 802.11a/g/Draft-N has.
Can you please help a computer dummy?
