WIFI Router - want to disconnect from fried computer

My husband's computer is fried and because the WIFI is connected to it, I can't access my Tablet now. I have heard that the WIFI will work without the computer but when his computer is disconnected, it still won't work on my Tablet. He had the phone, the computer and the WIFI router all working together. Is there a special way to use the WIFI router without the computer? If so, I would like to know how.
