I have a about a 5-6 year old Toshiba Satellite laptop running Windows 7, which was using wi fi connections at different places just fine. Suddenly after some updates (I have gone back to an earlier restore date but no fix) from Microsoft and carrying the laptop on the airplane to return home, my laptop does not connect to my home internet any longer. I have tried the driver updates, restoring to earlier time but nothing works. I know my wi fi works because other computers & ipads are connecting in the home. When I run a diagnostic app it suggests it has found the adapter and attempts to reset the wi fi adapter but it will still not connect. Importantly, when the laptop is hard wired to the modem it works fine. What happened?

I believe the wi fi network adapter is an Intel Centrino Advanced N6250 AGN. Do these things go bad and how do I tell if I need to replace it? Also should I just use a usb type adapter or replace the internal Intel one?
