Hello to all,
I want to install a wifi network at a second home in Portugal. It will be used to stream video to televisions as well as the usual smartphones/tablets/laptop.
ASDL really is crap at the address and it is limited data usage - but 4G is available and super fast. The advert states it is unlimited - but I will try to work out if there are data limits and if my installation would be likely to contravene such limits.
To get our usual tv stations I will need to use a VPN because DNS unblocking wont work on 4G mobile networks.
Before I go off make mistakes purchasing the wrong type of equipment or agreeing to inappropriate contracts, I would value some advice. Sorry in advance but I have lots of questions and that is why I am asking for help. If I was to put up a thread for each question, I think I would be only be confusing the situation.
Here goes;
Thanks in advance. :up:

Here goes;
- Do VPN's work on 4G networks. The network I'm looking at is a Band 20, 800Mhz service offered by wow..pt.
- The type of LTE router I'm considering to purchase is a Netgear MBR1517. Would dual band technology be useful?
- Is there any LTE routers that I could configure in such a way that when somebody wants to watch tv, the router will know it is for streaming tv and as such it will use the VPN. All the rest of the traffic can use the local ISP. Perhaps the MBR1517 is ok for this, perhaps not. I do not know and I would not know where to start asking about it
- Thinking a bit into the future - I would like to be able to connect up to 3, perhaps 4 televisions. The 4G speed is certainly fast enough but what effect would the VPN service have. Would the number of televisions mean that I need more than one VPN contract - or is one contract sufficient?
- Each TV would be connected to an android box (Roku 3 looks great) - or I could consider Humax set-top boxes as there is a satellite dish which can be connected too.
- Due to the layout of the place, I'm thinking of using powerline devices to connect to devices that may be out of reach of a decent wifi signal. Re-wiring to install category 5 cables would not be an option that I would want to undertake. That said, there are telephone cables running into some rooms and these could be hijacked if necessary.
- Are there any VPN providers that offer a service which would meet my specific needs better than others.
Thanks in advance. :up:
