Laptop: Gateway MT6705, 1.6 GB Dual Core, 2GB RAM, Downgraded to XP Pro (laptop came with Vista), WiFi Wireless, Dial-up Modem V92, "New" 250GB HDD (OEM HDD (120GB) is still working fine, but want to upgrade to the 250GB HDD).
I have not done a new harddrive in years. I bought the Gateway new in 2008 and have used it continuously for 5.5 years. It has been the best laptop I have ever owned. I am getting this Gateway ready to sell, and installed a 250GB HDD. I have successfully reloaded everything except for the RealTek RTL8187B WLAN network adaptor. (Realtek has worked flawlessly for me for all this time.)
Re-installing the still working OEM HDD (that has Realtek on it), I downloaded what I thought was Realtek RTL8187B in a zipped file (23.5MB) to an external drive, at a local WiFI station (I don't have broad band available where I live, only dialup). I re-install the 250GB HDD and try to run Realtek and only get that I have to be connected to do driver updates. (DUH!)
I don't want to do "driver updates". I want to download Real tek RTL8187B and install it on an offline laptop so I can go to a WiFi station and use the WiFi.
Questions:
1. Is there a way I can transfer the working Realtek RTL8187B from the old HDD (still working) to the new HDD and get the WiFi woking again?
2. Where can I download a complete, working Realtek RTL8187B that will load with out requiring an Internet connection while installing it?
Thank you ahead of time.
