I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, if you read to the end it will explain why I posted here. A couple months ago my HTC Amaze kept dropping wifi, usually in the am and would work by afternoon, just a few occasions. I replaced my phone with a Galaxy Note 3 and have had it for about a month and the other day it did the same thing but for a longer period. It worked for a day then for about 36 hours continuously dropped. I called t-Mobile and explained all the steps I took, resetting the router, restarting the phone, turning off this and that. So I did a master rest on the phone. Didn't help.
At the same time I was having issues with my wireless mouse, Microsoft 3500, it was lagging. I tried a different mouse, same kind, no change. I tried two brand new logitechs, nothing. I tried a wired mouse and it worked. In retrospect I realized all the above was happening at the same time.
T-Mobile suggested I call my ISP, I did. At this time I decided to change the line to a different port on the router, it has 4, the first one I changed it to said it was already being used  So I changed it to another and I was online. I checked the phone but not long enough to see if it would drop and then just a couple minutes later Comcast reset my modem.
Two things I noticed.
1. The mouse no longer lagged.
2. My cells bars were full. I didn't realize that the bars fill up with either wifi or with T-Mobile, but I did notice that the bars were empty when the wifi kept dropping.
And just to add, nothing else dropped, my daughters laptop worked fine, ipod touch, my daughters Nabi, even my old cell which is just used with wifi didn't drop. Just had issues with my cell and the wireless mouse.
So my question is...Was it the modem or the router? My router is kind of old but the best one I have ever used. It's a netgear N600-model WNDR3400.
