I'm begging for computer ideas here. Before I reformatted there were NO connectivity issues so I know the hardware is compatible with Vista and that it's all compatible with one another.
Here's the issue:
When I reformatted my hard drive on my laptop computer and reinstalled my OS (Windows Vista Home SP2) I tried to reconnect to our home network. The router is a Linksys E3000.
I can connect to the home network on an Unsecured connection but not on a Secure connection.
When I "connect" to the secure connection, it says I'm connected but I cannot see any other computers in the network even though I know there are 4 connected and I cannot access the internet.
When I connect to the home network via the unsecure network, by design I can't see the other computers on the home network so that's not a problem; and I *can* access the internet.
When I change the main home network to a network with security disabled (which isn't an option for anything other than a quick test), I can see the other computers on my network and I can access the network.
I don't think the problem is on the router end because I just enabled the hotspot on my phone, which is a secure connection, and my laptop would not connect to it either. It has previously.
Yes, I have the passwords correct.
Yes, the workgroup name is correct.
Yes, my wireless adapter on the laptop is turned on.
Yes, I have rebooted the router and my laptop.
Yes, other computers and tablets in the house can access the home network secure connection and access the internet.
What on my laptop (an old Compaq Presario A900) could be interfering with accessing a secure network? I really need some help here It's driving me nuts. As I mentioned at the top, this laptop previously connected with no issues until the reformat. There's got to be a setting I'm missing.
If you've read this far, thanks.
If you have ideas, you'll be my hero.
