Can't connect to Internet

My computer used to connect to the internet. Now, it won't. This also happened for about a 6-month period last year, and then all of the sudden it worked again this fall, but now won't.

My device manager tells me that nothing is wrong with the Linksys Wireless G adapter. This has worked for a few years, and nothing was suddenly new with the router or anything when the connection stopped working. All other computers in the house connect to the internet.

Under Network Connections, a red "X" appears over my "Wireless Network Connection 6" which is my Wireless-G adapter.
> If I click repair, it says that "Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: Disabling the wireless network adapter."
> It also says "Make sure your network adapter is properly installed."
> If I click disable, it says "Error - It is not possible to disable the connection at this time. This connection may be using one or more protocols that do not support Plug-and-Play, or it may have been initiated by another user...."
> I don't know what the "1394 Connection" is that appears under "LAN or High Speed Internet," but it does say it's connected.

The single computer icon on bottom right has a red "X" over it, as does its neighboring double computer icon. I've right-clicked on them, and gotten no where trying to get onto my network which is detected each time.

I tried to run a troubleshooting sequence via the Start>Run (%windir%\network diagnostic\xpnetdiag.exe) but that didn't work either.

Under "tools" on the IE menu, I have a red "X" over "Work Offline"

Can you help me?
