We recently moved to a new house and once we did, my desktop started having connectivity issues. Eventually they became so bad, I was getting less than 1 mbps on speedtest.net on my desktop, though getting the appropriate 20 mbps on everything else. I assumed my router wasn't sufficient for our new house so I replaced that and it did not improve. So I assumed the modem from the cable company that was 7 years old needed to be replaced, so I bought a new modem. Still no improvement. So I changed the wireless adapter in my computer, which didn't improve the connection either. Eventually, I figured it must be an issue with the computer and replaced the motherboard. When that still didn't work, I really got fed up and bought a brand new computer, an Alienware X51, fully decked out. It arrived today, I plugged it in, and I'm having the exact same connectivity problems. Still getting the 20 mbps on my laptop right next to the desktop, but no matter what I try, I cannot get the desktop (which is brand new, yet showing the same problem) to connect. I called Time Warner, and everything looked good on their side, which is confirmed with the laptop and other devices working fine.
I'm at a loss. I've replaced absolutely every piece of equipment, yet cannot get a decent connection. After changing the Dlink-857 router channel from 1 to 11, I got a connection on the desktop, actually achieving 14 mbps, the best in a while, but two hours later, now it won't connect at all, either showing a Limited connection, or not being able to connect at all. I've tried both auto assigning IP addresses through DHCP and assigning a manual IP address. If I repair the connection, it will connect for about 5 minutes, achieving about 0.20 - 4.0 mbps on speedtest, but then 5 minutes later, it won't connect any longer.
