Getting rid of Comcast gateway

Hi All,

I am thinking of getting rid of my Comcast supplied gateway (SMCD3GNV). I am looking for better and more stable performance. I have Comcast triple play (internet, phone, cable).

Also, I am trying to set up a SiliconDust HD Homerun Prime in my network.

Do I need a cable modem or a dsl modem or either? Also, I've seem people mention gigabit routers. Should I be looking into those?

My phone line is connected to my gateway and provides phone access to other phone jacks.

Any info/advice is greatly appreciated.
