Hi guys, really looking for some help as I have been cursed with internet problems ever since I inserted my first AOL trial disk.
I have recently moved to a new home with 4 others that use wireless devices as well. They recently had a router that was frequently disconnecting with a red/orange light. But this is not the issue now as I have gone to replace this router (twice now).
The first router I got was the linksys ea3500. Once i installed this router I did my usual tests on speedtest.net and pingtest.net. Speeds were satisfactory, but when it came to the pingtest I had a lot of packet loss/jitter. This doesn't happen over a wired connection (Gets an A grade over wired and gets a C grade over wireless). I thought it was the router doing this as it's not the greatest router out there... so I went and picked up the asus AC66u router. I thought to myself that this router was the solution to my problems... however it wasn't. I still experienced the exact same jitter/packet loss as before, not to mention the 5ghz band was giving me a 0.20mb/s connection when it was giving me a 30mb/s connection on the 2.5ghz band (lol).
I did a little research and it seems as if the 5ghz band problem is relative to the ac66u but this jitter/packet loss is what's really bothering me. For now I hooked in my powerline adapter to my PC so I can still play games without lagging but this doesn't solve the issue for wireless clients in my house, including myself.
The packet loss is always around 1-5% while the jitter can be anywhere from 20-100. The router is on the floor in a separate room and where I test is separated by a couple walls. I have rogers internet.
Please help me!!! I thought that the move to this new place would solve my life long internet struggles. Unfortunately it has just gotten worse.
This is my first post on these forums (and any computer forums for that matter) so please excuse me for doing anything incorrectly.
Thanks so much in advance guys :)
