Need router purchase advice

I'm a home user with a Netgear WNR2000, v.2. I've been plagued with slow speeds and erratic video streaming, etc. on my desktop. Had the Cox Cable tech out here, and my modem speeds are just great: 65 mb/s hooked straight to the modem. The tech suggested I do a firmware update on router, but I'm not convinced that'll solve the problem. I want the BEST speeds, make no compromises on quality, but here's what I use it for: no gaming, but I'm using MLB.TV for live games, I sometimes do downloads from YouTube, et al of around 200-300mbs each, and I want quick download speeds. I'm the only user in the house, with occasional family guests.

So....I'd like the best possible router for my needs, no cutting corners to save a few bucks- but I don't want to waste money on features/bells& whistles I don't need. I've seen on Amazon the reviews for "TP-LINK Archer C5 AC1200 Dual Band Wireless AC Gigabit Router" and the reviews are extremely high. But I saw on one of the "10 highest-rated" sites that the Linksys tri-band router has sensational performance. But that router is $300(!) while the TP-Link Archer is a third of that.

Any suggestions/wisdom appreciated!
