Hi,
I've encountered a strange problem when setting a second router on a friend's network. He has his main router in his basement, and doesn't get a good signal when he is in his backyard. He needs a good signal outside since he as speaker for his music, which are controlled by an Aiport Express. I know how to had a second router to a network since I did it a couple times before.
His main router is a Netgear N600, and the second one is a TP-Link TL-WR841n. Here is what I've done so far:
On the N600:
Then, I unplugged the main router, and plugged the second router, which I factory reset before.
Then, I plugged the first router back in, plugged the ISP ethernet cable to the WAN porte of the N600 (primary router). Then, I plugged the ethernet cable that goes through the wall in a LAN port on the main router. I plugged the other end of this ethernet cable in one of the LAN port of the second router.
Everything is on, everything is set. But surprise, not internet... When I was closer to the main router, the internet over wifi was working perfectly. When I was closer to the second router, automaticly my phone changed router and changed channel. There was then no internet. I tried with a laptop and an iPad too, with no succes. Yes, the wire is in a LAN port of both router.
Then I thought it maybe was the ethernet cable that could be broken. I plugged the wire directly in the laptop and boom, there I was surfing the internet. The problem was obviously with the second router. I thought it may be broken.. I decided to bring the TP Link (second router) to my house and try it out. The only difference in my house is that my main router is a D-Link instead of the Netgear.
At home, I factory reset the TP Link, to start from scratch. I did almost EVERY SINGLE STEP the same way I did at my buddy's home, execpt one: Instead of having the DHCP starting range at 3, I had it at .100 on the main router. I gave a static IP to the TP Link (second router) of 192.168.1.10, instead of .2 as I did in his home.. After 5 minutes of setting things up, internet was working properly... So, the problem comes from the netgear N600 of my friends house.
Any idea what it could be? I doubt it is because of the different IP as I have done at home. And yes, I know I rewrote everything alright (SSID, password) since I did a factory reset on both the NETGEAR and the TP Link 6 times.
Thanks a lot.

His main router is a Netgear N600, and the second one is a TP-Link TL-WR841n. Here is what I've done so far:
On the N600:
- -Note the SSID and the password (WPA2) to rewrite them in the second router to match the exact criteria.
-Change the starting IP range for DHCP to 192.168.1.3 (before, it was 192.168.1.2)
-Change the channel to 6
Then, I unplugged the main router, and plugged the second router, which I factory reset before.
- -Change SSID name to match the exact same criteria as the N600.
-Add a WPA2 passkey, and write the exact same passkey as the N600.
-I change the router's static IP in the LAN setting to be 192.168.1.2.
-Disabled DHCP, since it is enable on the N600.
-Change channel to 11.
