Out of nowhere, my downloads have begun abending in every instance, without exception. I have read this thread and tried several of the solutions suggested in a similar case: Refresh Firefox, Turn Off Windows Firewall, Restore Firewal Defaults. None worked for me.
Environment, Dell Vostro with 4GB memory, running W7 64-bit, Firefox 38.0.1. Downloading files typically 300 to 600 Mb to an external HD where free space is 600 Gb or 28% of total.
Have used this setup in the same way for years. Suddenly, the last few weeks all downloads bend ... sometimes with as little as 3Mb, sometimes with as much as 20Mb downloaded. Download kicks off fast and then I watch as it stops.
Tried to download with IE and the window was obscured with 4 or 5 full screen pop-up ads. Don't have that problem with Tbird because I use Add-on pop-up blockers. Could those blockers be the culprit? Or could the mal/adware itself be aborting my downloads? (I am downloading from sites that are real-world, not malware pages.)
Re the popup ads: Under direction from Malwarebytes tech support, I have run Adwerk followed by MBAM. The machine stays clear for maybe a day, and then all the junk slowly returns. Altogether I have repeated the process about four times..
