Frustrating WiFi issue. Hp dv7 laptop

My Hp dv7-6B32US laptop is frustrating me to no end!!! (Soon there might be an end to this computer's life if it doesn't shape up!!!!!)
This is an acquired problem, the dv7 used to work fine. Also, my sister has the same computer (we bought them together) and although she has a different network and ISP set up she has the same symptoms.
The dv7 is able to connect to the router and to the internet through WiFi and also Ethernet. The issue is that when I am on WiFi the connection is so slow (signal strength shows as excellent) that most web pages will have to be refreshed several times to load. It will however usually load my home page (MSN.com) very quickly, but if I click on an article of interest it will not load the page on the first (or second) try. Forget about trying to watch a video unless you have five minutes or so for it to load and then it will need to buffer as you watch.

I have a notebook computer running Window's XP connecting to the same router and it has no problem connecting or loading pages.

I can connect the dv7 to the network via Ethernet and everything is super fast. Speed tests come back around 30mps

I've tried disabling AVG, clearing all my cookies and Temp folders, switching from IE11 to Mozilla, all to no avail.

On a side note because more information is always better than less.....My network is a Verizon router/modem upstairs with a ASUS RT-AC66U Dual Band wireless-AC1750 Gigabit Router hard wired into it on the downstairs of my house, it is broadcasting on 2.4 and 5 GHz. On the middle level of the house (it's a tri-level) I have an Apple Airport Express that is also broadcasting 2.4/5.0 GHz

I'm sure I've left out something important....my apologies in advance, and many thanks in advance if you have an idea of what to try next.
