help with router prioritization

I have two apple routers in my home, one of which is only used for our printer. Two days ago, my samsung galaxy s3 started having problems with wifi- it would continually say that it was "searching for ip adress" while trying to connect to my wifi, and would eventually give an error message saying my connection was too slow. Anything with the phone itself(resets, *#0011#, etc.) Haven't worked, and after testing with a computer i found that it couldn't connect either. As soon as i went downstairs (further from the printing router) the wifi started to work again. I thinl that my phone is trying to connect through the printing router, but as soon as i unplug the router the internet for the whole house slows down massively(But my phone's wifi does work!)TLDNR Would anyone here know how to make a device prioritise two routers connected to the same wifi? Please phrase answers as simply as possible, i'm HORRIBLE with this kind of stuff :/
