WIFI activity?

Hey all! Please forgive my obvious ignorance for what I'm about to ask but it seems that technology is finally passing me by..... Anyways; I am a Comcast customer. I rent one of their wireless "gateways". An Arris TG862G/CT. And though I have wireless capabilities, I prefer to connect to the internet via the ethernet cable.

So my question is this: since I am hard wired, should the WIFI button on the gateway be constantly blinking like crazy?
