Hello, Tech Support!
I have ran from one problem into an entirely different one. If you'd like to skip the background and get right to my current problem, skip to the paragraph that starts with bold text. I will attempt to be as detailed as possible. I am currently accessing this forum through another device.
My new hard drive used to constantly BSOD on me with random memory errors. At least every 24 hours. I decided to just grit through, but it also affects other things -- for example, I get "disk write errors", and for games that WORK, such as Counter Strike: Global Offensive, eventually I get pak vpk errors on random files (I assume they get corrupted, so I'm kicked from the game). Well, I finally gave up and hooked up two hard drives, and am using an older drive as a boot drive, and keeping the old, faulty one, to do everything else. (If this is a terrible idea, please let me know.)
ANYWAYS. I installed Windows 7 on my old hard drive, and got my computer to boot from it now. I use a WIRED connection, and DO NOT have a wireless adapter installed, and would like to not have to buy one. The last drive I used wired up fine, but this one didn't. It wouldn't detect any connection, and then I get messages saying it couldn't find a driver for the network adapter.
That's weird, so I finally started Googling this. I was led to go to the Control Panel, Network and Internet, Network and Sharing Center, and Change Adapter Settings... Well, when I get to this point, the "change adapter settings" window is completely blank. Just to make sure I was messing something up, I checked that path on my laptop and it fills with connections and the like.
What do I do now? I appreciate any help offered, and will attempt to respond quickly.
