Hi :)
For the last three days, my laptop (Acer Aspire V5-573G, Windows 8.1 64 bit) can't connect to our house's wifi, which I have been able to connect to for years. I am in a basement flat, while the router is one floor above me. Other laptops, tablets and phones in the same basement flat have no issues connecting to the wifi. The wifi shows up in my available networks, full signal and all, but I can't connect to it.
What I have tried:
- Restart PC
- Restart router and modem (both quick reset and factory reset)
- Run the built in diagnostics tool (yields different results: IP settings not configured properly, something wrong with my network card etc., so I tried the fixes below to overcome these findings)
- Deactivate and reactivate network card
- Uninstall and reinstall network card
- "Fix" my wifi application/program/something (Atheros Qualcomm...) through "uninstall programs"
- ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew
- flushdns
- System restore to time when internet worked (unsuccessful because iirc something allegedly was wrong with my C drive, ran chkdsk /r, re-ran restore, still no success)
- Set a static IP, gateway, DNS etc.
- Virus and malware scan with MalwareBytes (iirc it found 4 files/folders, which it quaranteened)
Weird part is that when I'm close to the router, the connection seems to work, albeit very slowly. The router is connected to the internet with no issues, and if I connect my laptop to the router with an ethernet cable, there are no connectivity issues.
I had Hamachi installed before (AOE2 LAN ftw), but it never interfered with the connection. When the problems arised, I uninstalled it. No effect.
Would love for someone to pull out that apparent magic understanding of networks and help me. Had help here before, and it was amazing.
