Files have Disappeared

Hi,

I have a user on adomain who got a new laptop. On setting up their laptop they said they could not see their documents which usually saves on the server and the location mapped to the My documents folder. On checking the path of the documents in the old laptop i noticed it was in a different path so i moved them to the intended path so that they can be visible in the new laptop.
Woe unto me coz after the move there are some documents that just disappeared,cant find them in the path on the server neither can i find them on the local machine.

Any form of assistance would really help
