A second computer is not connecting to my router

My computer works great with the NetGear router. I have four solid bars and great connection.

I had a roommate move in and he stays in a room that is attached to the garage outside (it's has electricity, baseboard heat, large room, very nice). He wants to tap into my router. So he bought a Netgear extender. At first he was getting 2 bars and yet that was enough for him to get online. Now it's zero bars. I keep moving the router from plug outlet to another outlet and the extender is only giving me 2 green lights instead of 4. Even when 4 appear, it's not connecting. He has a TV/computer all in one. Well, he has a flat screen TV (Vizio) and he has a Dell XP OS (tower) connected to it.

I keep calling Netgear, but they are using remote access to change things on MY computer.

Any suggestions I need to tell Netgear because I have another appointment today at 3:00.
Thanks!
