ReadyShare Access Problem on Netgear Router

My router is a Netgear C3700 (http://www.netgear.com/home/products...ers/C3700.aspx)

The issue I am having is accessing my USB external HDD that is connected to my router via USB. I can access the drive no problem when I remove a username and password for accessing the drive. When I enable username and password, I can't get past the credentials page. The username and password are the same as what I have to use to access to router through the admin page.

I've tried changing the password to something simple (1234) in case there was an issue with the password, but that didn't help. The username is 'admin'; same username for all Netgear routers I believe, since you can't change it.

I think the issue is with what the domain has to be. I'm accessing it on Windows 8.1. By default, Windows chooses the computer as the domain, but I don't think that's correct. I've tried a number of different domains, none of which I could get to work.

computer_name\admin
sharename\admin
192.168.0.1\admin
http://192.168.0.1\admin
foldername\admin

The domain has to be the issue to me, because that's the only thing that changes between enabling a username and password and disabling it. The only other thing would be the username and password, but username I can't change and the password I made extremely simple, so that rules those out to me.

I've actually been speaking directly with Netgear support for over 2 weeks. I haven't gotten anywhere. I've asked them what the domain should be at least 10 times and every time they ignore the question. Once on live chat with level 1 support (I'm at level 2 support now through email who is talking to their engineers), he explicitly told me he wouldn't answer the question.

Now, they want me to provide them admin credentials to my router, which seems extremely suspicious to me. I'm starting to think they don't know what they are doing.

I tried posting on a Netgear forum, but never received any response. Any help would be appreciated.
