wireless card / router

Let's say i get a wireless account with one of the major internet providers.

I've heard to protect yourself from people getting onto your computer when using your own wireless router/ card (the kind you either put into your usb flash drive or the kind you put right next to your computer), you just need to make sure you don't broadcast your SSID.

If i don't broadcast my ssid, and no one knows my account info, if i am sitting at the library or bookstore, could the best computer hacker get onto a brand new computer, never used before, by somehow hacking onto my wifi router/ card that is Not displaying/ sending the SSID, when using the computer there?

In other words, is not showing/sending my wireless ssid - 100% full-proof/ safe?

This would also include that i am not opening any hacked files, now opening a possibly compromised flash drive and/ or documents, going to a website that has been hacked, opening any links that malware/other.......any of that stuff.

Let's just say.......i have a new computer, a new wireless router / card sitting next to it, i am online and i've only gone to yahoo news, and the computer hacker is sitting next to me trying to hack onto my brand new computer/ never used before, and he can't see what i am doing at all because i have a privacy screen in place, and my SSID is hidden and not on the network. The best computer hacker in the world - can he get on without me leaving the yahoo news page and not clicking any links there.

thx
