My roommates and I recently picked up the 25 mb comcast package for our internet and I've been experiencing nothing but problems. When it was set up 3 weeks ago, we were given the SMCD3GNV Gateway modem/router combo thing. It generally gave great speeds (up to 25+ mbps on speedtest) but also went down to ~8mbps. This wasn't a huge issue but the big problem was that this modem cut in and out like no one's business (caught it dropped down to .03 mbps on a speedtest). This caused a lot of disconnect issue for me on various games/skype calls/ streams.
After suffering through this for ~2 weeks, I called comcast and had them put it in bridge mode so I could use my own router (Linksys wrt54G ver 2). Now this helped stabilize the connection, but it is only going between 5-8 mbps and not up to the 25+ it used to.
Extra info: my main computer is generally ~15 ft away through a ceiling so range shouldn't be an issue. My devices all connect fine and consistently with other wifi connections. I run windows 7.
Any helpful information on why the connectivity was unstable with the Gateway (SMCD3GNV) or why the internet connection is slower with the linksys (WRT54G ver2) would be really appreciated.
