Adding an access point to WAN

I need some help getting the settings right to add an access point to my home network. (I probably have more network devices than I need but there are reasons for this as I will try to explain.)

Currently, I have a Secomm SHG1500 modem/router (provided free by my ISP, Vodafone, and branded as "Vodafone Station") which I use as , is connected to ADSL and is my DHCP server. I need to keep this device in my network because I can connect an HDD to it by USB and serve my music etc all over the network. I have to use this as the DHCP server because Vodafone have locked it down and you can't disable DHCP on it (trust me - this is correct). However, I have the wifi turned off on this, and only want to connect other routers/access points to it.

Connected by ethernet to the SHG1500 is a TP Link W8960N (which I bought before I signed up to Vodafone). This has DHCP turned off, and I use it as a wifi router. Physically, this sits right next to the Sercomm SHG1500. I've got all my wired stuff connected to it by ethernet (TV, Bluray, AV receiver) The reason why I use this for wifi instead of the SHG1500 is because if I use that, AirPlay doesn't work on my AV receiver but it does if use the W8960N, for no obvious reason (trust me - I spent literally hours with support staff from both my ISP and the receiver supplier, Pioneer, and no-one could tell me why this was.)

I generally set a fixed IP for each device my family use. (I need to do this so various remote control apps connect every time to the relevant device - trust me, this is necessary)

All of this has worked fine.

I've now just built myself a studio/shed/retreat at the other end of my property out of range of the wifi. I've run ethernet from the SHG1500 out there, which works fine as a wired connection. What I want to do is connect an access point out there to extend my WAN to cover my shed and back yard. So a mate gave me a Netgear WGR614v7 he wasn't using. I can this to work as a seperate WAN, but if I change the SSID and key to the same as my existing WAN, and turn off DHCP, it stops connecting to the internet.

I don't want to have to run two WANs (mostly because explaining that to my wife would be near impossible) I want to have one WAN with 2 access points.

Can anyone help me with the proper settings for this? (Would it be better to run the ethernet to the shed from the W8960N?)
