Solved: LAN is connected but can't connect to internet?!

I know you all must get this question a lot and I appreciate any help you can give. I recently set up a new old desktop computer I found and I can't seem to get it to connect to the internet. It uses Windows XP, and is a wired connection using an ethernet cable. The wired connection works with my laptop as does the wireless connection (there is no wireless card in the desktop) so I can't figure out what the problem is. The modem is connected through a router, and I have tried hooking it up directly to the computer but its the same thing. It detects the connection and says its connected but no internet access.

Chrome is saying the the DNS lookup failed and I tried all the things it recommended with no luck. I used the ipconfig and everything looked fine but I tried to ping the default gateway and it timed out.

Can anyone tell me what I should try next?

Any advice or help would be appreciated.

Thank you!
