Connecting to wifi with an old laptop

Hi there! Glad to find this forum and hope you all can be some help! My mate recently bought an old (2002, according to the original sales receipt) Fujitsu Lifebook laptop. The spec on the receipt states it has wifi, yet we have both looked and looked and can't find any way to use it or connect to the internet. I can't even find anything on the start up menu that relates to wifi. According to the manual, the wifi button is top left of the screen, and it's lit by a blue LED. The machine is on Win XP pro and seems fine in every other respect. It's been a while since I last used XP. I am not a complete idiot, but have limited experience!
Any ideas anybody? HELP!
