Can't connect to any wireless automatically

Hey everyone. :)

Whenever I log onto my laptop, at home or at school, I physically have to go and click on to the wireless just to connect to the internet. Then it takes another 5 minutes just to connect. I want my internet to connect automatically but it won't. If I did leave it, eventually it would connect automatically around 10 minutes later but generally i need the internet to connect straight away as I have important work I need to finish..

Has anyone else had this issue or know how I can fix this? :)
