Hello all,
I'm a new user on this site. I'm wondering if anybody here can help me out.
I've had my Alfa antenna for a few days now, having originally bought it to connect to the guest wifi in the timeshare in which I live. (I help manage here). My house is about 300-400 feet away from the router. Upon connecting my alfa to both of my computers (Windows 7 64 bit/Windows 8 32 bit Tablet PC) I did not pick up any networks in the vicinity. I figured that I would take both down to the clubhouse, where the router is located. My alfa then picked up a signal on both computers and I decided to walk it back to my house while connected to the network on my Tablet PC. Walking back, about 15 feet in front of my door, the signal hovered at 65%. I took a few more steps backwards and the network suddenly got incredibly choppy (the link signal fluctuated rapidly between 20% and 60%) and stopped working. Inside my house, I tried to click on the guest access network, which was still coming up at around 60%, and the program jumped to the second tab for a brief moment before kicking me back to the main tab. When on the main tab, I notice that the device makes no further attempt to look for signal, and It does not connect at all. Apart from this, when I start up my PCs and try to "plug and play" at my house, the device does not discover anything at all, even though the network should be discovered and in the 60% range. There should not be issues with interference as none of the timeshare units have wireless signal. The only thing between the clubhouse and my house is a mostly empty parking lot and a couple hundred feet of grass, trees and sidewalk.
I've seen many reviews (bought on Amazon) which showed that buyers were able to use a public wifi network anywhere from 300-1000 feet away at great connectivity. I'm wondering if there is something I need to manually configure, if there's a setting i'm not aware of that would provide a simple fix or if it is defective (or otherwise).
Any help or recommendations to forums would be appreciated.
