Solved: Problem in ethernet splitting to Apple Airport Express and Sonos

Hey, I'll try and keep it simple >. >'
My home wifi network consists of an Apple Airport Express connected directly to a fiber outlet. It allows only one other ethernet output which my roommate uses. I however wanted to use a Sonos wireless audio system meaning I have a Bridge that I need to connect to the router. For this I bought an ethernet splitting cable which is just a typical cable with ethernet ends but of course one end has two cables. The problem is that when I connect this to the Airport Express it only seems to allow one connection to be active at a time meaning that my roomie can't get online if the Sonos is running. Also I tried connected the splitter directly to the wall socket and then running the router and Sonos from each their splitter connection but then the router didn't get a signal through.

My question is if there's something I'm missing in this setup? Does Sonos have specific requirements or does the Airport Express not meet the needs of a quick enough connection on its own? I've been able to run the Sonos perfectly fine through the router when I unplugged my roomie's cable so I'm sort of confused as for what is wrong.

I hope somebody knows anything that could help me out :)
