I access the internet via an ADSL2+ connection and I have a fixed IP address. Recently, I installed a new wireless router (Netgear DGND4000), and it immediately began to flood my Inbox with reports of DoS attacks. I didn't see anything like this with my old router, even though it was set to report attacks; just the odd port scan.
I am now finding that my pc firewall, run by McAfee Security Centre, is reporting incoming connection attempts, even though my routers (I have tried them both) are set to block all unsolicited incoming traffic. These attempts come from the internet, not other devices on my LAN.
My ISP and Netgear have been unable to suggest anything. I'd like to understand what is going on and what steps I ought to take to solve the problem. I'm particularly worried about incoming requests apparently getting through my router firewall.
Regards,
Roger
