Laptop w/ NO Wired or Wireless Internet Access

I am not using the system download, only because the request is concerning another laptop that I have no internet access with. I am a first time user of the site, and at best a novice with computer lingo, but here goes. At home where I presently am, I have a wireless system the I can either use or I can plug a wired line directly into my laptop(s). I currently am using the wireless to communicate with the forum using my TOSHIBA Satellite. The computer in question is less than 2 years old and is a DELL Inspiron N5050. When I plug the wired connection in it does not see it but it displays that the computer is connected to my wireless, but when I try and access the internet through internet explorer I get one of the following messages:


The remote device or resource won't except the connection.
Or
The Proxy Server is not responding.


Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.
