No Internet after Win XP re-installation

After the Registry became corrupted and I had exhausted all recovery options on my Dell Inspiron 9400, I installed a new Crucial 120 GB SSD. I then re-installed Win XP from the original disc. In setting up the network options I must have made a mistake because, although Network Connections shows "1394 Connection Connected, Firewalled 1394 Net Adapter", I cannot connect to the internet.
Full Disclosure: I am working at the very outer edges, and beyond, of my knowledge here and would appreciate someone with some real skill bailing me out.
From a previous post I saw that this IP Configuration from the affected computer might be of use so have added it below:

Windows IP Configuration

Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : brit-a084d69181

Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :

Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcast

WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No

Ethernet adapter Bluetooth Network Connection:

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected

Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network)

Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-16-41-4A-0B-A9

If this info is not applicable please ignore and just let me know what you do need to advise.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks
