Hi! I've recently run into a problem using wi-fi on my laptop at my local public library and wonder if anyone can help. I didn't have any problem using wi-fi here a month ago and this has only started about in the last three weeks. The strange thing is that wi-fi works at home and other public hotspots, just not at the library.

I did the usual Windows troubleshoot wi-fi command, connected and disconnected my machine, disabled and re-enable the network card, switched of my machine, moved position, asked the staff if they'd been having any problems with the their router, confirmed that there were other users using the wi-fi and none of this worked? The only thing that's changed from before is that I've started getting back into 'freebies and giveaway software' and have installed some new stuff on my machine, most notably, some new security software, ie, AVG Internet Security Suite 2014. I've tried disabling this, thinking that maybe it was the firewall component blocking the connection, but this didn't work? I use the Comodo Dragon browser, and am aware that it routes traffic via their own servers, so I disabled this aspect of it, again this made no difference? I also tried using Firefox to connect, again to no avail. As I was in the Library at the time, I grabbed hold of some books on networking and tried the various suggestions on troubleshooting wi-fi. The suggestions included using the command line editor to issue various instructions, eg, ipconfig release, renew, flushdns and ping. Running the Network Diagnostics Framework, of which I didn't really understand? I took screenshots of all the results, which I can post if requested.

As an aside, the network icon that shows in the task bar recently started behaving erratically, ie, it displayed not connected (icon with a red cross through) when it was? I looked this up and deleted some redundant network connections, which was one of the suggestions I found. This changed the icon, but didn't cure the problem? However, this seems to have sorted itself out now. I have done a web search for similar problems, but am getting nowhere. Please help?
