would not connect to wifi.

Can anyone please help me figure out why my laptop would not connect to Internet or wifi.
However when I plug it into the other end of the Ethernet cord it works?
If it is not plugged directly in it will not show or give me any networks at all:(
I've tried so many different things.
My phone, kindle,(WIFI) & Netflix etc all work just fine.
But the one I need to use most is not working correctly? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
