Solved: new pc and older router connect

Hi...
last year i connected a new modem/router (netgear) to my old Windows XP machine..everything went well...

I now have a new PC with windows 7 ....and i really do not have a clue but i just connected the router to the new PC
in the hope it would just use the configurations and set it up on new PC...
but nothing happens...i went into the browser and tried to connect but nothing happens....

am i doing this the right way?
