Hello everyone!
I am literally at the end of the road here, I have read so many forum posts and taken so many pieces of advice but nothing seems to be working.
I am unable to connect to the internet on my desktop PC despite the fact it is pretty much next to my router and I am using a brand new wireless adapter.
I recently reformatted my old desktop PC, I installed some new RAM and added an additional Hard Disk.
I reinstalled windows XP professional with sp2.
I have just purchased the TP-LINK NANO USB ADAPTER (literally the newest model), I installed the drivers and software as stipulated on the box and the adapter appeared to work initially (albeit a little intermittently). I was able to download all of my audio and graphics drivers and able to download XP sp3 off the microsoft website and install it.
Since installing SP3 (and .NET framework 3.5) the wireless adapter essentially refuses to connect... a problem I have had so many times when trying to add wireless adapters on XP systems.
The PC finds my router, and either spends five minutes attempting to 'acquire network address' or connects but doesn't display anything on the screen when I open one of the browsers.
Running various tests and diagnostics, it seems like the PC cannot renew it's IP address?
Computer is currently showing the 'limited or no connectivity' icon despite being 'connected'.
Please help!
p.s. Might also add I have removed and reinstalled the drivers for the TP-LINK device that came on the CD
System: XP sp3
RAM: 2GB DDR2
Processor: Intel Core2 duo 4300@ 1.800GHz
