Hi have a very peculiar problem.
I cant seem to ping any IP address or DNS on my network but can RDP or access shared files.
My network is using a Netgear router which I have changed just to rule that out. I have about roughly 5 physical hosts (additional 10 virtual hosts) and about 5-10 wireless hosts.
Some host use DHCP others use static that I have assigned.
As with netgear the router is your standard class C address 192.168.0.1 (this is the default gateway and dns address used for static hosts)
For example if I type in \\hestia (which is my NAS server) I can access its shared contents.
If I ping any host from command prompt:
C:\Users\redmonkie>ping uranus
Ping request could not find host uranus. Please check the name and try again.
C:\Users\redmonkie>ping 192.168.0.16
Pinging 192.168.0.16 with 32 bytes of data:
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Ping statistics for 192.168.0.16:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),
I've also tried pinging hosts from my router and that fails, but all hosts have internet access, file sharing access and all the servers that offers server roles and responsibilities work.
All servers are running Windows 2008 Server. Two hosts running Windows 7 ultimate. And a server running VMware ESXi
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
