I am trying to help out a friend, they can no longer get onto the internet either wireless or Ethernet. The computer is a Dell Inspiron Model M5030 OS is windows 7, 64 bit OS service pack 1. I know just enough about computers to be dangerous. I work for a ISP in the field so I know my way around pcs pretty good. I first confirmed their internet connection was working fine with my tablet and their roommates laptop also they have a desk top right at the router. All of those work fine. I thought it might just be the LAN and the wireless card drivers needed to be reinstalled, because the only IP address I can get is the windows 169.254.171.213 when I go to details under the wireless card or LAN tcp/ip properties. I hope this makes since to someone. I even tried buying a new usb wireless card and installed it and I still can't get any connection. I did try the something from an earlier post that had to do with reinstalling the stack as they used to call it. but when I did the one for the ipv4 and ipv6 it said it can't be found. HELP. I also need to reinstall the drivers for the original LAN card on that computer also.
