Wireless Issues

Hello,

I have a Dell Latitude E6430 and lately I have had trouble connecting to the internet. I have checked to make sure that the adapters are all enabled and such, and it connects with an ethernet cable, but as soon as I unplug it, it automatically switches to no readable networks. The switch is also on meaning that it's not blocking the wifi, so I'm not sure what could be wrong. I did take my laptop out of the country a while ago, and it seemed to start happening after I did that Could that have had an effect on it?

Hotkey to disable internet

Hey guys.

I need a way (software, windows settings, whatever works) to disable my computer's internet (or block the connection of an individual process) by simply pressing a key (not mouse) in the keyboard.

Thanks for the help.

EDIT: Windows vista just in case. The disabling on the internet has to be close to instant as soon as I press said key (minimum delay).

EDIT: The key should be global since I'll be pressing it while using a specific process and not on the desktop or anything.

tp-link wr841n internet problem

Hello,

Recently i've acquired the router mentioned in the topic name, and i've tried to install, connecting it with the RJ-45 cable that my ISP left me, i've made all the necessary settings to the WAN port in the router administration page (192.168.0.1) entering the static IP address, SM, DG, DNS Servers. I save them all, reboot the router, but I'm not able to connect to the Internet. I don't receive any packets from the WAN, my wifi works but can't surf the web.

Here u can see the settings on my PC with the RJ-45 cable directly connected to my PC :
http://imgur.com/Z7axFiF
And here are the settings that I've made to my router to the WAN port:

Note : I've updated my firmware to the lastest, tested the router at a different location, all OK.

Can someone give me any advice on how to fix this ?
Thank you,
Paul

I get a red X over the internet icon and my router will no longer recognize any networks. I called my ISP and the manufacture of my Belkin router. So I went out and bought a brand new Net Gear router. Still not working. I called Net Gear and they think it's my wireless card?

Is there a way to determine for sure if its a hardware problem?

Maybe I need to download a driver?

Is there a wireless switch on my laptop?

Do I need to configure my new router? I'm hoping to use my Belkin router if it's just a driver problem so I can take back the new router and get my money back.

What are some first steps to take? If you need more information, please let me know. Thank you!

Internet Connection Issue

a friend of mine just had her internet speed upgraded via U-Verse and while everyone else in the house has internet on all their computers and devices, her laptop reads the connection but doesn't connect to the internet. it isn't her wireless card because i brought it over to my wireless connection and it didn't have any problem whatsoever. it works when directly connecting to the modem but not wireless. i've read a lot of comments saying it might be a virus but that seems incredibly unlikely considering it only occurred after the upgrade. i ran through all of Windows Vista's diagnostics and troubleshooting but still no luck. hopefully someone out there has some idea what the issue might be

Need help with file & print sharing between Win Vista & Win 7

I need help with Windows File & Print sharing.

Here's my current setup:

Belkin Wireless Router
Desktop PC: Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit OS (Connected via patch cable to the router)
Laptop: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS (Wireless connection to the router)
Printer: HP Photosmart 4680. Connected to the Vista Desktop via USB cable.

I want to share the printer from the desktop with the laptop.

This is what I did:

1. Went to network & sharing center on the Vista PC
Turned ON Network Discovery, Public Folder Sharing, Printer Sharing, Media Sharing.
Set Password Protected Sharing to OFF.
Set the Network type to Private.

2. In control Panel I went to the printers, right clicked on the Printer Options, checked the box that
says "Share This Printer", Gave the printer a Share Name.

3. I verified that the Workgroup name on both the Win 7 & Win Vista PCs are the same.

4. Turned off the Windows Firewall & Anti-virus on the Vista PC.

So, then on the win 7 laptop I tried to install a network printer. I had it do an automatic scan for a printer. It did not find a printer. so I clicked "The printer that I want isn't listed"

Then I clicked browse, and, saw the name of the Vista PC on the network, so then I chose that & tried to connect to the machine to install the printer. This is the error message that appeared:

"0x80070035 the network path was not found"

I can not get past this error no matter what I tried. What am I missing? I looked for solutions online & nothing seems to work. I was thinking of re-loading Vista but I really don't want to do that if I don't have to. Does anyone have some advice as to what I should do here?

One other thing I did try was connecting the laptop to the router via an ethernet cable, but, that had no effect.

Thanks for any other suggestions you may have.

Computer cant see network

I am helping an elderly friend to change ISP. She had no trouble on the previous one. The new one works fine on ethernet but not WiFi. On the list of available networks I can see several of her neighbours networks, (various ISPs but none the same as her new one), but I cannot see her new one. I can connect to these other networks (as far as entering the wireless password). This seems to me to prove that the computer is OK. The computer is an ancient laptop. I can connect my iPad to the network with no problems. This seems to me to prove that the router is OK. What am I missing? All WiFi is supposed to be backwards compatible so the age of the computer's wireless adapter should not be a problem.

In ipconfig (see below) it says Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected is this significant? I am connected by ethernet whilst writing this post.

I have just purchased a TP-Link Range Extender TL-WA850RE.

I find that my ProLink Router and the TP-Link does not support each others WPS. So I had to configure the Range Extender via the Ethernet Cable.

After the WIRELESS setting is done, I get the following message;

UNABLE TO RESOLVE THE SERVER'S DNS ADDRESS

I wonder what I should do next?

Linksys RV082 Router with additional Apple airport Extreme Routers

I am trying to improve wireless performance at a clients home. Currently they have a Linksys RV082 set up as their main router. They also have 4 additional basic Linksys WRT54G routers set up at various points in the home that seem to be failing. My plan was to put in 3 Apple airport Extreme routers in place of the Linksys routers. I am wondering if they really need the Linksys RV082 in their network at all as they aren't running a business. Their is a large area to cover with a big house and the usage is purely Laptops, ipads, phones. The Linksys RV082 is only 110/100Mbps LAN Ports. I could keep this in the set up and just add the Apple routers in on Bridge mode. I could also remove the Linksys RV082 and start fresh with Apple Airport Extreme routers and add in a 10/1000Mbps Switch if needed. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Connect 2 computers without crossover

I am a total nerd when it comes to networking. I have two computers and two routers. The first computer is connected to a Motorola SURFboard model SBG6580 and this is my primary router and is connected to cable. My second computer is connected to a NETGEAR WRN2000 Model N300. I am running Windows 7 (Ultimate on my primary computer and Win 7 Home Premium on my second computer). I have the second computer plugged into the Number 2 port of the Motorola which is plugged into the Internet port of the Netgear. The LAN port of the second computer is connected to the number 1 port of the Netgear. My problem is how do I get the second computer to share stuff (printer, files etc) with the first computer? The reason for two routers is to extend WIFI. I don't think this is a problem but my Satellite TV is also connected to my primary router and if I open NETWORK (see screenshot 1) on the start menu, on my primary computer it sees COMPUTERS (1), MEDIA DEVICES it sees 7 and in OTHER DEVICES it sees another satellite device and the software for my Smart Phone. If I open NETWORK CONNECTIONS (see screen shot 2) it shows my internet connection but I have no idea if it's supposed to show the second computer. I'm totally lost. Can you please help me get this thing connected correctly? It would be greatly appreciated.

Hi guys .
I bought a dlink wireless N 150 router(DIR-600l) two days back and i'm not able to set up the connection .
I have made all the connections(usb to router , router to my Pc ) as indicated in the user manual . i was supposed to open a browser and type "http://192.168.0.1" or "http://dlinkrouter" to get the setup wizard but it always says "webpage not available " no matter how many times I try .
Am i am missing something here ? Should i change anything else before doing this ? (btw wen i ping , it says dhcp is disabled and im totally clueless if that affects in anyway )
This is my first time using a wifi router and i'm totally stuck. Any help would be really appreciated .
Thank you.

( i have tried changing the static ip or whatever to the router range as suggested by someone else , n wen i do that i cannot connect to the internet at all ) ( i'm not that familiar with all the internet terminologies so please make it as simple as possible )

The remote device or resource won't accept the connection

I keep getting this error on my laptop. Whie browsing with any browser, websites suddenly will stop working. I run the network troubleshooting, and it says "The remote device or resource won't accept the connection." My wifi still works on my phone, and connecting to the other public wifi networks around me end up not help. I typically have to either restart, or try again another time. I ran ipconfig just now (while I'm able to connect to the internet), and it put out what I've pasted below. How do I fix this?

I have a Acer laptop that I can't get online with. My router has been giving me trouble for a while so today I had a Brighthouse modem installed and shut down the router. The new modem is a wi-fi modem. I also have a Apple Macbook that is working with this new hardware. This Acer is giving me a page that says "the poxy server isn't responding". It was working for a few minutes after the change, but stopped. Sure would appreciate some help. Thanks.

[Linksys N300-E1200] Router Admin brings up Blank Page

$

Friend got a Linksys N300 (e1200) router (version 2). Asked me to set it up for him.

TL:DR - Admin Page is blank when visiting from his computers, yet my phone can bring it up just fine. Internet also works fine if Internet is connected to the router.

This seems to be on any computer on his network. All his computers are windows 8. I tried on his Laptop, and Desktop.

Steps I took on his laptop:
Powered on new router, did not plug in internet modem, disabled Wireless on his laptop, wired plugged laptop into router. ipconfig /release .... ipconfig /renew ... (default gateway: 192.168.1.1 , ip was 192.168.1.113 or some random number like that .. in the 192.168.1.x range)

I then went to 192.168.1.1. Blank Page.

It seems to redirect to 192.168.1.1:5200/Unsecured.asp?192.168.1.1 (I guess new linksys routers do that when the wireless network is unsecured? It seems to be a landing page where you verify that this is ok before redirecting you back to your original destination.)

I tried this on Chrome, Internet Explorer. Same thing.

I repeat this on his desktop. Same thing.

I do a ipconfig /dnsflush ... Same thing, but the redirect to the Unsecured.asp page no longer happens.

Cleared cache on browsers, blank page. rebooted computers, same thing.

I did a 30-30-30 hard reset on the router. Still blank page.

I plug the internet modem in for kicks (reboot modem, reboot router again). Internet works, still blank admin page (no surprise?)

I visit the page on my phone (connect to the network wirelessly). VOILA, page shows just fine.. It goes to the Unsecured.asp landing page, i click ok, then redirects me back to the Linksys admin page, where I am able to make any changes to the network as I please.

Go back to the computers, well, still blank admin page.

I tried using the Linksys software that came with the router to set it up. It said it installed, still blank page.

I was thinking on updating the firmware through my phone, but didn't as I didn't want to risk bricking the router if something happened midway.

Any ideas on what the problem is? Bad router?

Wireless connection problem on notebook

Hello guys!

I have a problem with my Fujitsu Lifebook E733 (windows 7 operating system). It was working fine until it unexpectidly disconnected from the wireless network. The wireless network is fully functional (or if it wasn't I couldn't be sending this :P ) , buy I think it's a laptop's problem. The windows network diagnosis found two problems:
1. Wireless capability is turned off
2. A network cable is not properly plugged in or may be broken

The wireless card on the laptop doesn't do anything when I press it (none of the buttons close to it do except the power button :p )

Can you please help me with that problem?

Thank you.

Can't connect to Internet wirelessly but can with Ethernet

Ok so I have a Dell E6400 laptop running Windows XP. I have 2 other Dells running Windows 7--those connect to my wireless router no problem. The E6400 SHOWS that its connected (4 green bars in the icon) and that its authenticated but it shows no IP address and there is no connectivity either to my home network or to the Internet. I swapped out the wireless card (1397) with one of the other laptops and it worked fine so there is no problem with the wireless adapter card. Its must be something to do with authentication because its letting me "connect" in the sense that there are green bars in the status icon but no actual connectivity. I've updated to the latest driver--I tried using both Dell's wireless adapter utility and windows utility and can't connect. I've changed the workgroup to the same one the other computers are on. I don't have any filtering in my Linksys Router (E1000) its set up with WPA2/WPA mixed security with password and a/b/g mixed mode transmit. The wireless utility shows the security on the E6400 as WPA-Personal.

If I plug in an Ethernet cable to the E6400 it connects fine to the router--just not wirelessly.

Any ideas as to why its not getting an IP address from the router?

Model KDL-55EX640.
When I preform a scan, it will not find any wifi networks at all. I have unplugged, did a factory reset, put the LAN adapter in HDMI 2, reset router, etc...it used to work fine. I even set my iPhone as a Hotspot to see if it could recognize that and nothing!

Can the LAN adapters go bad? I cannot manually enter IP address when I choose WIRELESS setup, and obviously choosing a WIRED setup doesn't work.

Thanks

New office server questions

We are starting a new business, and need to have common storage where our office computers as well as telecommuters can access and change various documents and folders. The office will be small (5or fewer users). We would like to be able to back up these folders nightly using external storage of some kind. We are not interested in cloud storage. We found information on other sites that recommended Network Storage Servers- WD Sentinel DX4000. Is this the right avenue to go down? We are trying to keep IT costs down, so we are looking for something user friendly where our few computers can access shared documents. We do have a couple of telecommuters so the storage server will need this capability. thabk you for your help.

Internet site address lookup problem

Background info:
EPC3298AD CISCO modem with a 180MB/S package
4 Ethernet cabels are connected, of which 1 goes towards a splitter. (total of 5 ethernet connections)
All ethernet cables are full duplex.
Multiple people on the network have this problem.
I tried changing DNS to google's public DNS to no avail.

The problem:
Sometimes websites refuse to load, they spend 20 seconds trying to load and give a "Cannot connect to the internet" error OR only the site's text loads (without HTM,L CSS, etc.).
This problem usually stays for about 2-3minutes, after which it goes away.
During this "problem", the internet connection is stable, and websites that are open work properly (Buffering a video, streaming a video etc. all work properly, clicking a link and therefore getting directed to another part of the site doesn't work however).

When?:
This problem suddenly started occuring about a month ago, for no apparant reason.
It happens at random, but usually at least 5-10 times a hour.

Internet provider solution:
The internet provider say's this problem happens because of Half-duplex devices being attached.
The internet has been perfect until a month ago, and no new devices were connected at that time..... so I really doubt that's the problem.

Does anyone have ANY idea what is wrong?
